Subject: [CB] Petrouchka Chord

I know this is off topic but I am looking for the petrouchka chord in
Stravinsky's ballet but I can't find it (mostly because I do not have a
score, only the CD) and I was wondering if anyone could tell me where in the
ballet it is.

Thanks for any help you can give

Barrister-

I don't recall about the Saxes in China, but there was a recent item about a
Tuba to be carried in the Boston Marathon.  Has anyone heard how that came
out?

Saxes in China was rescheduled - apparently due to a disagreement between
different branches of the Chinese government.  The new date is "between mid
April and mid-June, 2001", exact dates yet to be determined.  I think there
are more details on the Nuclear Whales website

Yes, but....  Have you ever ordered anything from WW&BW?  Their catalog is
comprehensive, but their inventory doesn't seem to include much of the
``odd-ball'' stuff.

I've had a VanDoren sopranino sax mouthpiece on back-order for MONTHS!  If I
had needed it for a pit orchestra, I'd have been SOL.  The set would have
long since been struck, and I'm still back-ordered!

So do you want it today from your local shop for $160, or do you want it in
2+ months for $115?

I can't remember offhand if or where it appears as a struck single unit,
but I think that it is, for example, arpeggiated in the piano (between
the hands, in an extended up and down way) at several points where
Petrushka is in action.

I can get vandoren contras at my neighborhood music store for about $25 a
box.  The prices on other things aren't quite as great as WW&BW, but I've
been in there a million times, and they tend to give me large miscellaneous
discounts.

Has anyone out there tried Clark Fobes' contra mouthpiece?  I have heard
that it is very good.  He says that it does fit Vandoren reeds side-to-side,
unlike some of the stock Leblancs that come with the horns.

Yes, I've ordered quite a bit from them over the years.  They carry a
lot of things that are not listed in the catalog, too.

If you've been waiting months for a mpc, you should telephone them.
They moved their facilities recently, and may have misplaced your
order.  On the other hand, they may not keep sopranino mpcs in stock
(despite the fact that they could probably fit a year's supply in one
desk drawer), and may still be waiting for Vandoren to run off a few.
Whenever I order something esoteric (like a cover for a bass flute
case), I always ask if they have them in stock, and if not, how long
they expect it will take to get one.

Didn't mean to sound disparaging to WW&BW.  I've done a lot of business with
them---I've just learned not to expect some things immediately.

> If you've been waiting months for a mpc, you should telephone them.

I did mention it when I was placing another order (for Legere reeds, which,
I'm sure through no fault of WW&BW, won't arrive for some time).  The clerk
said that he'd remind VanDoren about it.

When I ordered the 'nino mpc, I casually mentioned to the clerk that I knew
he didn't have any in stock.  (Why keep capital tied up in such a low-demand
item?)  The clerk assured me that they did, in fact, keep them in stock.  At
the time I thought that some decision-maker at WW&BW wasn't clear on the
concept of inventory turnover.  Now I realize that the clerk was simply
wrong.

Once again, I assert that I'm not disparaging WW&BW.  The conversation was
about paying $160 for a mpc locally vs. paying $115 for it from WW&BW.  My
point was that the $45 premium for immediate availability might make the
difference between taking/declining a paying gig.

Geo (who, knowing what to expect, is a satisfied WW&BW customer)

Please do allow for a bad level of ignorance:

I have attended full performances of the Petrouchka ballet. But I am not
aware of the special  chord in question.

Could someone enlighten me?

Full spelling or detailed figuration?
