handle of the miscreant. It won't be recorded on an official auction number, but
if you got stiffed other eBayers (like myself) want to know. If you check eBay
feedback, you will see a fair percentage don't have auction numbers, and are from
similar conditions (+ or -).Larry de Martin

Subject: [CB] 'Eroic Marimbas
Reply-To: contrabass@contrabass.comA fellow websurfer passed along an interesting URL to me:
http://www.corporeal.com/instbro/inst01.html The site has a number
of pages devoted to instruments invented by Harry Partch. The
particular page in question links to the Marimba Eroica, which has
only four notes: F0 (i.e., F below the piano's lowest A), C1, E1, and
A1. The longest bar is 8' long (2.44 meters). For each of the
*other* instruments, clicking on the picture gets you a RealAudio
sound clip of the contraption in action. However, clicking on the
Marimba Eroica only gets you a weasely lecture about how you should
be able to *feel* the tone come up through the floor, and that your
speakers aren't going to do it justice, so there! Ah, well, still
worth a look.Enjoy!

Subject: [CB] More CB CDs
Reply-To: contrabass@contrabass.comStill going through CDs. I wandered into Tower Records at a particularly dangerous time: bins full of CDs marked down to $8.99, including a bunch that I remember from days of vinyl. Here's a few more:
- Freddie Hubbard "Sky Dive" (1972 CBS Records, ZK 44171). This is an old jazz classic. Not really a lot of contrabass per se, but four of the musicians are listed as playing alto flute, and two of those are also listed for bass flute (and one of them is Hubert Laws). All arrangements by Don Sebesky. Also has Tony Price on tuba, and Paul Faulise on bass bone, amongst others.
- Trio de Clarinettes "Live" (1991 FMP, CD 39). The Trio de Clarinettes consists of Jacques di Donato (clarinet & bass clarinet), Louis Sclavis (clarinet & bass clarinet), and Armand Angster (clarinet, bass clarinet, and contrabass clarinet), and the selections are predominantly "free jazz". AA has a nice low C Leblanc contra :-)
- Talk Talk "Laughing Stock" (1991 Polydor, 847 717-2). Interesting jazz disc, with lots of guitar and keyboard. Also, unusually, a number of violas and cellos. And one contrabass clarinet. At least, there is a credit for Dave White on contrabass clarinet on the liner - I haven't picked it out of the mix yet...
Enjoy!Grant

Perhaps one more phone call to the guy to see
if he'll make good on his agreement. I would rather have the bass harp than
have to make the guy's life a bit more difficult, but it was up to him, not
me!
