There is a Conn bass sax on ebay today. Go to
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=188890662.
It's listed as a "Bass sax Saxaphone Saxophone big
conn."Why do so many people spell it "saxaphone" on
ebay? I've seen saxes being sold by people who really
seem to know whatt ehy're talking about, but still
spell it with an "A."

Spelling has become a lost art. I can't tell you how many people don't even
realize their own poor spelling.
By the way, in your own paragraph above, "they're" should have a "t" on the
front of it & "what" should only have one "t".
:-)

How many times do we see "their" or "there" in place of "they're"?
Or "your" in place of "you're"?
BTW, for about 20 years, the Chicago local 10-208 Musicians Union directory
had the instrument listed as a "saxaphone".
Bad spelling & improper grammatical useage run rampant in todays society,
sorry to say. (alliteration)

Au contraire, mon ami. Compare today's offerings with freeform Mediaeval
spelling. What it is is that so many more people have the chance to air
their written views in public - not just in moderated form (e.g. letters
to newspapers), as it was until fairly recently, but, with the advent of
mailing lists such as this one, anyone with an internet connection. Even
this century, why would the average man have any reason to display his
spelling prowess publicly? When he did, it would be a special occasion,
and he would doubtless make every effort to spell whatever it was
correctly. So there you are: it's not that spelling is a lost art, but
that it's currency has been debased by the proliferation of mass media.
Or something like that...

You could try and visit the old Adolphe Sax factory (now a Selmer
factory) near Place de bastille, or Buffet Crampon, just outside Paris.
(I do not have exact addresses)

Yes, we've been spammed, for the second time in the list's history.
I've removed the message from the digest, so that at least it will
not show up there.  There are actually several attempts per week to
send spam to the list, nearly all of which are rejected by the system
software.  As the list software is set to accept posts only from
subscribers, and one cannot subscribe without my intervention, either
someone has figured out how to hack the system or one of our
subscribers is sending spam.

Let me reiterate that "making money", virus warnings, investment
opportunities, "send a card to the poor kid dying of cancer", and
related subjects are *not* topics welcome on this list.  I'm simply
not interested.  I get more than enough of that in my email without
it also showing up on the list.  I strongly doubt that anyone else
subscribing to this list is the slightest bit interested in signing
up for such frauds, either.  Such posts are not welcome.
