I know they're aren't contrabass instruments, but could someone tell me in
what key are the Oboe D'Amore and the Musette (Piccolo Oboe).  Any help would
be aprreciated.

The Oboe D'Amore is in A.  As far as I know the Oboe Mussette isn't a piccolo
oboe, but pitched lower than the oboe; in what key I'm not sure.  True
"piccolo" oboes exist in Eb (sometimes called the "military oboe") but are
rare.  You could also try and find one of the 15 Piccolo Heckelphones in F
that have been made.

Subject: Large Woodwind Ensamble (Warning Long and Pointless)
Reply-To: contrabass@contrabass.com

For some reason today i started planning a very large woodwind ensamble.  I
tried to give every group of woodwinds (Flutes, Clarinets, Double Reeds, and
Saxophones) a full range (from Sopranino to Subcontrabass).  But, in order to
do that i had to put in some rare instruments, some extinct, and even some
made-up ones.  Well, it consisted of 1 Piccolo, 2 Eb Soprano Flutes, 10
Concert Flutes, 2 Alto Flutes in G, 2 Bass Flutes, 1 Sub-Bass Flute in F, 1
Contrabass Flute (Rare), 1 Double Contrabass (Rare), 1 Double Subcontrabass
(Made-Up), 1 Ab Sopranino Clarinet, 2 Eb Clarinets, 10 Bb Clarinets, 2 Eb
Alto Clarinets, 2 Bb Bass Clarinets, 1 Eb Contra-Alto, 1 BBb Contrabass, and
1 BBBb Octocontrabass (Rare or Extinct), 1 Eb Piccolo Oboe (Rare), 3 Oboes, 1
Oboe D'Amore, 2 English Horns,  1 Heckelphone (Rare), 1 Quintbassoon in G
(Rare), 3 Bassoons, 2 Contrabassoons, 2 Subcontrabassoons (Extinct or
Made-Up), 1 Octocontrabassoon (Made-up and Completely Un-Feasable), 1 Bb Bass
Sarrusophone, 1 EEb Contrabass Sarrusophone, 1 Sopranino Sax, 1 Soprano Sax,
3 Alto Saxes, 2 Tenor Saxes, 1 Bari Sax, 1 Bass Sax, and 1 Contrabass Sax
(Rare).  Whew!  Well, i tried to have a larger Bass Section, while limiting
the number of Saxes. If anyone has any comments i'd love to hear 'em.  I know
there are people here that know alot more about these kinda things than i do.
 Thanks.

Sounds like an interesting thing you have there. I' limit the amount of rare
and made-up instruments, though. You'd never get it recorded!

Well, I'd say a full orchestra with all instruments with all ranges
would be something like this.

Strings:

Brass:

Woodwinds:

Well, i was up late last night thinking about my last post and i started
doodling.  Well, i ended up drawing a Bassoon, Contrabassoon,
Subcontrabassoon, and an Octocontrabassoon.    I also scribbled each of their
lowest notes.  Complete with my made up COntrabass (E) and Subcontrabass (D)
key signature.  I also added a guy playying  a Octocontrabassoon suspended by
a crane.  Well, to make a short story shorter, here it is

I think you seriously understaffed the clarinet section:

A more complete selection would include
