I know the quintbassoon isn't a contrabass instrument, but I think of our
list as also a medium for odd instruments, plus several bassoonists reside. A
Woodwind catalog just came, and it seems Amati reinvented the quintbassoon.
It's 30-1/4 inches in length, in the key of G and is supposedly for younger
bassoons. Surprisingly, it's only $1275.

Just thought I'd share,
Stuart

CD Review:

Rabih Abou-Khalil, "Odd Times" (1997 ENJA Records, ENJ-93302).  This is an
ecclectic group, with RA-K on oud, Howard Levy on harmonica, Michel Godard
on tuba and serpent, Makr Nauseef on drums, and Nabil Khaiat on frame
drums.  Not a *lot* of contrabass there, but the tuba does stand out.  The
sound reminds me a lot of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.

Enjoy!

Grant
