Reply-To: contrabass@contrabass.comEditions Fuzeau -- they have a website -- had a booklet on how to make a
chalumeau out of PVC. Perhaps the method could be adapted to bamboo.- Tim Tikker

>> Does anyone know of a way to make bamboo clarinets? I am just curious as to
how to make one, it is spring break, and I am bored. I just need to do
something to pass the time. Sorry if this has already been discussed.>>See Trevor Robinson, The Amateur Wind Instrument Maker, University of
Massachusetts Press, 1973. I don't know whether it's still in print. I
bought my copy in a used book store. Chapter 45 gives plans, with
measurements and a graph paper diagram, for constructing a primitive, 2-key
clarinet. His instructions assume you're using hardwood and turning it on a
lathe, but it looks to me as though the directions could be modified for use
with bamboo. He also gives plans for many other replicas of antique wind
instruments, including recorders, shawms, krumhorns, racketts, trumpets,
flutes, fifes and cornets. If you do this project, I'd be interested in hearing how it turns out, since
I've never tried to use any of these plans.Lelia

Subject: *Rare* contrabassoon ;-)
Reply-To: contrabass@contrabass.comNow here's a real find: an ebay item listed as a vintage contra- bassoon.
Must have meant a "piccolo" contrabassoon. What they have pictured is a
fairly typical bassoon, minus the wing joint and bocal. Anyone looking for
spare parts? See
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=80134121Enjoy!
