The Woodwind & Brasswind has a Selmer USA Contralto for sale at $995;
this is not an auction and the horn is in very good condition. My advice
is to act now! It's been for sale for awhile, so it won't be there forever.

Can't say I've really noticed a difference yet.  I haven't tried playing it with an ensemble yet, as the single reed mpc never had satisfactory intonation.  The double reed does play in tune, and allows me to play the full range into the altissimo (which I found impossible with the single reed mpc).  The timbre is reedier: I *think* it would be more prominent in a band.  Same amount of air.

OK here's a less-than-common instrument: a bass fanfare trumpet, at
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=70093107.

Also, a Selmer Mk VI alto sax with a low A extension at
http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=69260554 (but the
opening bid is $3950...)

Enjoy!
