Subject: Re: list V1 #11 - Serpent Fingerings

Lelia Loban's recent question about a fingering chart for serpents reminds me of
an AMIS convention years ago when a group of serpent players were arguing about
fingerings.  The debate became heated as the various participants would attempt
to demonstrate the validity of one source of information while showing why
another could not possibly be correct.  Finally, one of them effectively ended
the debate by holding a serpent in a way that no finger holes or keys could be
used and proceeded to play a scale about as well as anybody using them could do
it.  Apparently, fingerings are optional for serpents.

Subject: Re: Sopranino sax

Hey, never said the note was sounding great or anything! <g> I just know it is
an Ab because my friend with perfect pitch said "Yeah, that's an F" and it
matched the pianos high Ab. Oh, one time my private teacher said she played a
solo that had an altissimo A above that high F!
