Yamaha doesn't make contra instruments. ^_^ (At least not Beefers.)

Let's see, 0.500 bore, 20' length: you had a straight F cimbasso ;-)
Maybe F#...

You would be great at playing a Digeridoo! Can you do circular breathing?

In real life this past February, a Tubist known by us on the Tuba list
was attacked in his home in Rochester NY by a drug dependant person.  The
victim, badly injured and bleeding from a near fatal wound, retreated to
his Bathroom to use the phone to call 911.  The attacker broke down the
door, picked up the victim's tuba that was kept in the bathroom, hurled
it at the victim, and them speared both the victim and the tuba with an
ice spud.  Police and ambulace crews arrived soon after, subdued the
attacker who was then preparing to do further harm to the victim and tuba
with a large pair of scissors.  The victim did survive, with injuries
including a cut carotid artery, and the tuba was repaired as well.
Tuba and owner are both recovering.

This does bring up a serious question, how many contrabass players keep
and play their instruments in the bathroom?  This is rather bizarre.

Subject: mouthpieces

Perhaps someone can be of assistance.  I am looking for suggestions on
mouthpieces.  I play a Buffet bass clarinet model 1193 extended range. I
play in both orchestra and bands.  I generally use a reed strength of
medium hard, a 3 or 3 1/2 in most reeds.
My orchestra conductor and I apparently don't agree on volume.  He has
me playing at least one if not two volume levels louder than the music
indicates.  So, I am looking for a mouthpiece that makes it easier to
play louder.  I am able to get a full sound with this instrument.  I
don't want any shrillness in my sound.  Add to all of this the fact that
I am 5 months pregnant, meaning breath control will be a factor in the
upcoming months.
Of all the people I have played for this is the only person who has EVER
asked me to play louder.  In the 30 years I have been played I am
usually asked to drop the volume down a notch.

Thanks for you suggestions,
Jean

I have a new pestige model Buffet and I use a mouthpiece made by Bill Street.
I find it very full and flexible. I favor the more open mouthpieces so this
may not be what you want because of the pregnacy, but I really like the tone
quality and projection, and I have to play with drums on many occasion.

Before that I used mouthpieces by Charles Bay, which are also very nice.

Perhaps this fellow likes the sound of his horn in the bathroom....Who
among us hasn't taken their horn into a tiled bathroom just to hear how
great it sounds in there.  Come on, confess!!!
